Playtime 30’s Quilt- Blueberry Kisses Quilt

Hi Makers! It’s Sara from @SaraBQuilts! My most recent project is all about scale. When I first started sewing a few years ago, the scale of an illustration on fabric was not something I thought about or understood. If I liked a fabric print, I used it whether or not it fit the pattern. I was so excited to receive Riley Blake Designs and Lindsay Wilkes’s new collection, Playtime 30’s, because each fabric illustration is small scale.

Not only would this collection be perfect for 1” and smaller EPP hexies, it is perfect for quilt patterns that have smaller pieces, like Irish Chain quilts and the Blueberry Kisses quilt that I made! The Blueberry Kisses quilt by Thimbles and Needles (can be purchased HERE) is not a beginner quilt but, with time and precision cutting, it is a fun quilt to make and a stunning finish! Riley Blake Designs Playtime 30’s and Blueberry Kisses are a perfect match, and I highly recommend this pattern for this collection!

While the Playtime 30’s Toy Ducks are so sweet, the showstopper for me are the Playtime 30’s Bears! I found myself reaching for them so often that I had to cut out more halfway through making my quilt! I am using Playtime 30’s Gingham in Mist for the binding and Confetti Cotton in Cottage as the backing. This is hard to believe, but this is the first time I have ever used solid white as a background fabric in a quilt. For Playtime 30’s, I used Confetti Cottons in Cloud because the white is not overly bright but also still crisp and clean.

I loved that the Blueberry Kisses pattern gave a recommendation on how to hand quilt the quilt top once it was made. I knew I wanted to hand quilt this one from the moment I saw the suggestion by Thimbles and Needles! I will use my usual Size 8 pearl cotton thread in white. I am so excited to show you all when I finish it!

As an avid appliquér, I am always on the hunt for small scale prints for the tiny pieces that appliqué patterns always have. These prints are perfect for those little pieces, and I can’t wait to make some delicate leaves with Playtime 30’s Ditsy in Kelly and Flowers in Green!

I am so excited to see what everyone makes with Playtime 30’s and its perfect small-scale prints!

Happy Making!
