Lombard Quilt in Blossom Basics

Hey hey! It’s Sarah of Sarah Jean Makes and I’m SO thrilled to share with you my most recent quilt pattern: Lombard Quilt. This quilt was originally designed as a single block for an exercise in piecing curves. Its no surprise I love a complex curve block, but with this design I wanted to bring forth more energy than my usual curvy conquest.

I pull inspiration for all of my quilt design from the city I live in, San Francisco. I decided to pull the zig-zag elements of the famous Lombard Street – the “Crookedest Street in the World” – into this design. Each curved block goes back and forth in the width of the curve, emulating hairpin turns that cars have to traverse down on Lombard Street. This quilt is a fun opportunity to bring some San Francisco energy into your quilt making – as long as you don’t get too dizzy navigating those curves!

I opted to use the Blossom Basics collection because it gave just the right amount of texture and interest into the beautiful bold solid colors. I chose Raspberry, Lemon Zest, Emerald, Medium Blue, and Black as my color palette and I love how it transforms into a subtle rainbow against the sharp black background. The fabrics just play so well off of each other!
