Floral Charms- Monarch Quilt

Hello Makers! It’s Sara Brown from @SaraBQuilts. It isn’t quite springtime here in Michigan, but Floral Charms by Riley Blake Designs and Kelsey Carlson is making me ready for all the April showers and May flowers!

I think my favorite part of the quilt design process is deciding what pattern to use with the fabric pull I have selected and it was no exception for this quilt! I had lots of ideas for Floral Charms but kept coming back to the idea that it needed to be butterflies. There are so many amazing butterfly quilt patterns out there but the Monarch pattern by Laundry Basket Quilts (find it HERE) stopped me in my tracks!

The Monarch pattern is broken up into large, medium, and small butterflies and pieced to look like a beautiful butterfly display! You can choose whatever appliqué technique you are comfortable with for this pattern, so I chose my tried and true method of starched turned edge appliqué.

I used Riley Blake Design’s Coordinating Basic Blossom in Oxford as the background for my Floral Charms quilt. The Oxford blue is a stunning contrast to the Floral Charms Pink Posies and the Honey Gingham. The Floral Charms Main print was perfect for the larger butterflies, but was also fun to fussy cut for the tiny butterflies as well. I loved the bold color of the Raspberry Daisies, which really popped off of the Oxford Blossoms.

I will be using the Floral Charms Blue Gingham for the binding, because a gingham binding is my favorite! While this collection has a lot of great florals, I love the Collection of Things print and the Ginghams so much!

Now that this Floral Charms Monarch quilt is finished, I look forward to getting it quilted and bound and out for display this spring! I love how happy the Floral Charms collection is and know that it will brighten your day too!

Happy Making!
