Blush ‘n Butterscotch – Love Notes Quilt

Hello, Tamara here from Remi Vail Studio. I’m thrilled to share the Love Notes Quilt I made using the new Blush ‘n Butterscotch fabric collection designed by Simple Simon and Co. This collection is pure delight, bringing life to one of my favorite quilt patterns.

Why I Love The Blush ‘n Butterscotch Collection

There’s something about this collection that feels like a warm hug. The cozy butterscotch tones and soft blush hues – it’s a perfect blend of comfort and nostalgia. It’s the kind of fabric that makes you want to curl up with a cup of tea and stitch the day away.

I added a few beautifully coordinated RBD Basics to the mix!

The Love Notes Quilt: Envelopes of Joy

The Love Notes Quilt is close to my heart. It features quarter square triangle blocks that resemble envelopes – a playful nod to the handwritten notes that inspired the design. With the Blush ‘n Butterscotch version, I leaned into my love for scrappiness, using 22 prints instead of 7 as the pattern is written.

I hoped the extra prints, color, and texture would add movement and depth to the finished quilt. Don’t you think the result is brimming with charm?

Quilting Details

Design

Once the top was pieced, it was time to quilt! I used the Thread Garden pantograph by Longarm League. It felt like the perfect complement to the folk art-like illustrations of the Outlines print in the Blush ‘n Butterscotch collection.

Thread

I chose Aurifil Thread in a 40/3 weight (color Pale Pink) for quilting, which blended beautifully into the quilt top while adding subtle texture.

Batting

Wool has always been my go-to batting choice because of its added poof and dimension to the quilting design. Tell me in the comments what your favorite batting choice is!

Adding the Finishing Touches to My Love Notes Quilt

Making Bias Binding

If you’ve never made bias binding before, don’t worry – it’s easier than you might think! I’ve put together a Step-by-Step Bias Binding Tutorial to guide you through the process. You’ll love the beautiful finish it adds to any quilt, and it’s especially fun to see it come together with fabrics you love.

My favorite fabrics to use on the bias are gingham, plaid, and stripes! For this quilt, I used Bee Gingham in Butterscotch.

Hand Stitched Binding

I machine-stitched the binding to the back of the quilt and hand-stitched to finish on the front. I almost always use a visible big stitch on the face of the binding to attach it, which is what I did here. Have you used this technique?

Aurifil 12-weight cotton thread is my go-to for stitching the binding. The color Antique Rose was a perfect match!
