Folk Eggs Easter Basket and Plushie made with Sweet Spring
Believe it or not, it’s time for spring sewing! I’m always excited to sew for special holidays and occasions ahead of time, knowing that I’ll get to enjoy those items when the next season arrives. The new Sweet Spring collection by Hester & Cook feels so fresh, charming, and perfect for Easter sewing projects.
I worked with two prints from the Sweet Spring collection and paired them with some RBD stripes and gingham to make an heirloom Easter basket.
This pattern is called the Folk Eggs Basket and can be found in my shop here. I originally created this pattern a few years ago because I felt wasteful purchasing new disposable Easter baskets each spring season. I wanted something special that my kids could use year after year and possibly hand down to their own little ones someday. This basket is a generous size, so it fits quite a few eggs and other goodies. The egg blocks are constructed with traditional piecing techniques and are featured on each side of the basket.
For the basket background, I used the 1/8″ Tonal Stripes in Teal print from the Stripes basics collection. The egg blocks feature the Sweet Spring Ditsy print in Ivory and the Sweet Spring Floral print in Seafoam, along with 1/8″ Tonal Stripes in Dogwood on Ivory, 1/8″ Tonal Stripes in Sugar Pink, and Micro Gingham in Marmalade. The basket lining is Sweet Spring Floral print in Seafoam.
I had some leftover fabric, so I made a little Chickadee Plushie to pair with the basket. This one is quite simple to make and fun for featuring decorative stitches. Little ones love opening its little beak! If you’d like to make one of your own, the pattern can be found in my shop here. After making a few of these chickadees, my number one tip is to use wool batting for extra squish!
Sewing with Sweet Spring was such a joy during the gloomier months of winter! This collection is sophisticated enough for adults and playful enough for children, so I can’t wait to see the variety of projects that you come up with. Please share your Sweet Spring projects on social media and use the tags #RileyBlakeDesigns and #ILoveRileyBlake. Happy spring sewing!
