Midnight Meadow – Quilted Storage Boxes
If you’re a fabric enthusiast like me, you know the struggle of keeping your fabric stash organized. How unsightly and out of control those fabric piles can become.
Hey there it’s Kelly Renay here, and I’ve been struggling to keep current ‘work in progress’ projects and extra fabric organized in my tiny office space. Today I am sharing my recent make and my solution to this problem.
First things first, let’s talk about the star of the show; the Midnight Meadow fabric collection by My Mind’s Eye. The Midnight Meadow collection is traditional but moody. With exquisite florals, classic plaids and delicate calico prints, in rich blacks, smoky grays, and ivory whites. This fabric was a must-have for my office!
Now, onto the important stuff – storage boxes. Maximizing my space with smart storage solutions is key. Since my office space is half of a 10×13 foot room, hence the word “tiny” which was previously stated.
Insert, Midnight Meadow! This fabulous collection exudes sophistication, which I thought would add a nice balance to my joyful bright decor. Along one wall I have a table top, on a third of the table is my printer and some filing drawers. Normally on the other two-thirds I stack fabric piles high. Looking at this mess can be a distraction while working on a project. My mind can wander enough all on its own without some added distractions.
So, I measured the space and mapped out a plan for making a few storage boxes with the Midnight Meadow collection. First, I started with a pair of medium size boxes, about 10x10x8”. This will be great size for sorting scraps after cutting, fat-quarters, or excess batting.
Then came the big storage box at approximately 10x22x12”. It is a beast! But it is superb! It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. Not only do they help keep the fabric and projects organized, but the lids also protect from dust, sunlight, and curious pets (I’m looking at you, Star).
To highlight the Midnight Meadow collection, I used most of the prints from to construct the storage box with diagonal striped sides, for the big box. For the two medium boxes, I featured the main floral in cream and the smaller floral “stems” in gray.
With this new added storage, I no longer feel like I have to rummage through a pile or get easily distracted by other works in progress.
