It Takes a Village – Hello Quilt Pillow

HI Makers, it’s Sara from @SaraBQuilts back with another project for my two boys, Wyatt and Miles. I was not a sewer when I had my boys 5 and 6 years ago, so making baby quilts and cute diaper bags never happened. I get a little sad thinking about that, but will use any opportunity I can to make them something now that I can sew! When I received Riley Blake Design’s and Jennifer Long’s new collection, It Takes A Village, I knew it was time for another project for them!

Morgan from Modernly Morgan just released a new pattern called the Hello Quilt. You can find the pattern HERE. It is an adorable version of the “hello” name tags you get at events and meetings. The center of the block is a large open space that you can customize in any way you want. I used this as an opportunity to add appliqué names and embroidery. The options are limitless to add a custom look to this quilt or, in my case, pillows!

Riley Blake Design’s It Takes A Village is tailored to the young boys at heart! There are firetrucks, police cars, schools, roads, stop signs, and all of the fun village scenes that a little boy would want to see! My favorite prints of the collection are Main in Cloud and Traffic Jam in Gray. I used these prints as the background for my pillows. I used Community Text in Night as the backing fabric because it is a fun rainbow collage of words!

The It Takes a Village Shining Star fabrics in Fire Truck Red, Honey, and Hero Blue may be my new favorite blenders. The stars are small and do not overwhelm the fabric color. They are so sweet to work with. Fire Truck Red and Hero Blue Shining Star made the perfect name tag fabrics!

For the blank space in the center of each Hello block, I decided to embroider “My name is” and then machine appliqué my boys’ names. I used Crossroads Plaid in Cherry and Traffic Signs in Blue for their names! I used size 8 pearl cotton thread for the embroidery and used a chain stitch to make those words stand out!

I love how these pillows turned out using the It Takes a Village Collection. It would be the perfect collection for baby quilts, a toddler’s backpack, or a teacher’s gift! I can’t wait to see what you make with this collection!

Happy Making!
