The Peace of Mind Quilt in Sunsetridge

Charlie Bear Quilts
Karlyn Leslie
The moment I saw the dreamy colors in Minki Kim’s newest collection, Sunsetridge- I knew I had to go bold. So I grabbed my nine favourite prints and threw in a Confetti Cotton in Rouge—because why not add a little drama? It’s cozy, it’s punchy, it’s a cozy hug that knows it’s the star of the show.
Let’s dive into making a Peace of Mind Quilt—can’t you just picture it tucked away in a cozy cabin, waiting for slow mornings and crackling fires? It’s the kind of project that practically hums with cabin magic.

This is the lap size (48 ½” x 48 ½”)—just right for the end of the bed, your favorite reading chair, or the nursery of a baby who already knows they run the show.

It’s fun to mix and match the prints for fun combinations.
Finishing Touches
Like a touch of magic, the quilting brings the design to life—adding depth, texture, and a bit of floral whimsy. It’s where the quilt truly begins to sparkle. By using minky backing with a greater pile, the stitches appear more defined- giving it that satisfying “puff” in the negative space. I used the pantograph Be Mine by Urban Elementz. It’s one of my favourites!

And of course, the last decision you need to make is the binding. I am all about the plaid- it was the first decision I made on this quilt. I knew I wanted it to be the Rouge Plaid. It’s perfect!

Time to Cozy Up Your Space
Let’s start staging our quilts in the kitchen! It’s a vibe.

The lap size version is the very best size for taking with you anywhere in the house. Just toss the quilt over your lap and you’re instantly wrapped in cozy comfort. It also folds up easily and looks right at home draped over a chair, adding that perfect touch of warmth to any room.
Happy sewing!
