Easter Crochet Cardigans with Chunky Thread
It’s time for another Chunky Thread crochet feature! It’s been a lovely start to April in the PNW this year, so I’m happy to work up some fun spring projects. Today I’m going to show you the coordinating cardis I made for my two little girls.

I wanted some Easter-ish colors that would fill gaps in their wardrobe as well as coordinate with some of their dresses, so I settled on Chamomile and Sweet Mint as good classic pastels.

The pattern I used was one I’d written many years ago for Crochet! Magazine – unfortunately it’s been so long ago I don’t know which of the back issues it’s in.
This design features a solid yoke and broomstick lace skirt, with faux broomstick lace sleeve edging.

It’s been a while since I did some broomstick lace, but it came back to me! Isn’t it a pretty stitch?

Chunky Thread is a great weight for garments like this, and since it’s cotton, a good choice for something that needs to hold up and sometimes be washed.

The pattern stopped at size 2, so I had to adapt it to make these in size 3 and size 5. It turned out quite well, thankfully; the girls were both interested in my progress as I made them, and very pleased with their new finished sweaters!

Children’s garments are also good projects to use up some of the random vintage button cards from my large stash.

I like to have short sleeve sweaters on hand for them to layer over sleeveless dresses during the changeable spring days before it turns consistently hot. These certainly fit the bill, and were both quick and enjoyable to stitch!

I hope if you get a chance to do some warm weather crocheting you give Chunky Thread a try! I’ll share a sneak peek soon of my fun new summer project, so if you want to see what I’m up to, follow me on Instagram. 🙂
