Quilts in Modern Color: Creating Ombré Palettes
Hello! my name is Amber and I’m the quilt pattern and fabric designer behind Alderwood Studio. I’m here to share all about my newest book with C&T Publishing that is all about creating gorgeous ombré and gradient quilts. I used Riley Blake’s Confetti Cottons™️ Solids for every project in this book, and can’t wait to show you more!

Color is at the heart of every quilt, and in my new book, Quilts in Modern Color: Creating Ombré Palettes, I explore how to harness color theory to create stunning gradient quilts. One of the key elements that made this book possible was my choice of fabric—Confetti Cottons™️ Solids from Riley Blake Designs. Every single project in this book was made using this vibrant, high-quality fabric line, allowing for smooth and dynamic ombré transitions that truly bring each design to life.

Building Ombré Palettes with Confidence
In this book, I walk quilters through the process of selecting and arranging colors to achieve striking ombré and gradient effects. The book covers:
- Color theory and how it applies to gradients, ombré, and color harmonies
- Different types of gradients and how to construct them
- How to use the color wheel to find perfect fabric combinations
- Techniques for achieving smooth color transitions in quilt blocks
- Step-by-step guidance through 14 quilt patterns that reinforce these skills
Most patterns in the book are designed for confident beginners to intermediate quilters, with some projects incorporating curves and templates to add extra dimension. If you’ve been looking for an approachable way to try curved piecing, this book provides supportive guidance alongside stunning modern designs.

Why Confetti Cottons™️ Solids?
When working with ombré palettes, the quality of the fabric matters. Confetti Cottons™️ Solids offer a wide spectrum of colors with a soft, premium hand, making them perfect for blending shades seamlessly. Whether you’re transitioning from deep, moody hues to soft pastels or playing with bold, high-contrast gradients, these solids allow for crisp piecing and effortless color flow.

The versatility of Confetti Cottons™️ Solids meant I could push the boundaries of traditional quilting palettes. From warm sunset gradients to cool ocean-inspired fades, these fabrics gave me the freedom to experiment and create quilts with incredible depth and movement.

A Modern Approach to Quilting with Solids
I’ve always enjoyed using solids in my pattern samples to really show off the pattern design, and when working with ombré fabric pulls it’s important to pick just the right solids line. Without prints to rely on, color becomes the star of the show, and ombré palettes create breathtaking visual impact. Once we learn how to build these palettes with intention, we can create beautiful fabric pulls with ease and never regret a fabric pull again! Plus, you will learn how to utilize prints in ombré quilts as well while mastering the techniques in this book.

Get Inspired to Quilt in Color
If you’ve ever wanted to explore ombrè quilting but weren’t sure where to start, Quilts in Modern Color is the perfect guide. With thoughtfully curated palettes, easy-to-follow instructions, and the beauty of Confetti Cottons™️ Solids, you’ll gain the confidence to create quilts that radiate color and movement!
