Americana – Rosa Mini Quilt

Hello quilty friends, it’s Stitch With Rachel and I wanted to share my most recent mini quilt with you all. I have used Lori Holt’s latest collection called Amerciana and picked out 6 prints to create a mini quilt that finished at 14″.

The pattern that I used for this project is a Foundation Paper Pieced (FPP) pattern called the Rosa Mini Quilt and this can be purchased here. There is alot of small pieces in this mini quilt, so FPP really helps you keep those points accurate.

You construct the quilt in a series of smaller elements and then join these together. I found this to be a really manageable way to put the project together, you just need to be organised and keep your pieces together. We wont mention the piece that I lost!…

I often find that Lori Holt fabric features small scale patterns that work really well for small pieces and making mini quilts.

Once I had assembled the mini quilt top, it was then time to remove the FPP papers. I usually leave this job until the end as it helps to accurately join the pieces together. I gave everything a really good press as the seams can be a little wild when you have so many small pieces coming together.

At this point in the process, I was unsure if I was going to turn the piece into a cushion or a wall hanging. I decided to put the vote out to my viewers on YouTube and the majority of votes were in favour of a wall hanging. You can watch that video here and let me know your thoughts.

I quilted the finished piece with a matching cream thread and straight lines that were half inch apart.
I decided on the yellow binding to bring out the yellow print in the centre of the design.

I hope you are inspired to make a mini quilt!
Happy Quilting
Rachel xx
