Winged Medley Throw Pillows

Hey, hey! It’s Sarah of Sarah Jean Makes and I got to play with the prettiest floral fabrics for my most recent project. The Winged Medley collection by Katherine Lenius is full of fresh bouquets of spring flowers, elegant birds of many colors, and delicate blender prints to tie it all together. I had a hard time choosing which fabrics to work with, but ultimately I decided to highlight the florals.

It’s been a while since I’ve worked “off script” with a project. Being a quilt pattern designer, I often focus my makes on my own patterns and new designs. However, these fabrics were just begging to be used in a simple way. I couldn’t stand to chop them up too much! Pillowcases for my home seemed to be the best way to let these fabrics play. I decided to work with some equilateral triangles, cutting them to four-and-a-half inch height, and arranged them in rows to give some texture.

After the initial panel of the block was complete, I used the main print of the collection as a framed border. The florals on this main print are just so lovely and deserve their time to shine!

I finished the panels with a simple one-inch quilting and added an envelope style backing for the pillowcase. I added binding to the edges in the simple Woodblock print using a contrasting color from each pillow.

The two pillows are perfect for my home this spring and will brighten up the room!
