Milestone Medallion Quilt with Floral Charms

When I saw Kelsey Carlson’s Floral Charms collection for Riley Blake Designs, I knew it would be perfect for the Milestone Medallion quilt by Michelle Bartholomew. This pattern has quickly become a favourite of mine—it’s easy to put together, and fabric choices can completely change the look.

A Floral Focus

The Milestone Medallion pattern centre block is typically read as a star, but I wanted to highlight the floral inspiration in this collection. To achieve that, I used pink prints for the central block. This made it feel more like a blooming flower, rather than just a geometric star. Sometimes a small change can shift the quilt’s visual impact!

Choosing the Background Fabric

To balance the sweetness of the Floral Charms collection, I went with Oxford Blue Blossom for the background fabric. The deep blue adds contrast and keeps the quilt from feeling too “cutesy”.

And fun fact—since I live in Oxford, I have to admit the name of this colour definitely influenced my choice! The Floral Charms collection also pairs beautifully with other Riley Blake basics. You can check out the storyboard to create a totally different look depending on your fabric selections.

Why I Love This Pattern

Having made the Milestone Medallion quilt before, I can confidently say it’s a satisfying and quick make. The medallion layout is structured yet playful, making it perfect for showcasing favourite prints. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced quilter looking for a fun project, this one is a great choice!
