Creating Warmth and Inspiration with Curated Blooms
If you’re anything like me, there’s something magical about starting a new quilting project with a fabric line that feels as warm and inviting as a hug. Riley Blake Designs’ newest collection, Curated Blooms, is just that, a WARM HUG. This collection has quickly become one of my favorites, with its delicate florals, warm tones, and versatile patterns. It’s perfect for cozy, inspiring quilt that looks like a work of art.
To showcase these beautiful fabrics, I turned to one of my all-time favorite beginner-friendly quilt patterns: the Star Light Star Bright pattern by Craftsy, an oldie but a goodie. If you’ve never tried this pattern, let me tell you—it’s a game-changer. Not only is it approachable for quilters of all levels, but its classic star motif makes it endlessly customizable. Pair that with Curated Blooms, and you’ve got a match made in quilting heaven!
Why Curated Blooms?
Let’s talk about the fabric for a second. Curated Blooms combines soft pastels, earthy neutrals, and vibrant pops of color. The collection’s designs range from painterly florals to subtle textures, making it incredibly versatile for both traditional and modern quilts. When I first saw it, I immediately thought, Star Light Star Bright—the stars would shine against these dreamy patterns!
The Star Light Star Bright Quilt Pattern: Perfect for Beginners and Beyond
What I love most about this pattern is its simplicity. Even if you’re new to quilting, the clear instructions and straightforward block design will have you piecing like a pro in no time. And if you’re more experienced, it’s a great canvas to play with fabric combinations and quilting techniques.
For my Curated Blooms version, I opted for a warm palette—rosy pinks, soft creams, and mustard yellows—to create a quilt that feels like a sunny autumn day. The contrast between the light and dark fabrics within the stars made the design pop, while the coordinating background fabrics tied it all together seamlessly. The mustard yellow and navy, almost denim blue, added the perfect STAR POP!
Tips for Success
1. Prepping Your Fabrics: Curated Blooms has a mix of light and bold prints, so take some time to plan your layout. Lay out your fabrics next to each other and see how the colors interact.
2. Chain Piecing for Efficiency: The repetitive nature of the star blocks is perfect for chain piecing, which saves time and ensures consistency.
3. Once you have matched warm and dark fabrics and sewn your blocks, play around with the blocks. I choose to set a pattern around my star.
The Finished Quilt-Top
The final result? A warm, inviting quilt-top that’s both functional and decorative. I can already imagine it draped over a couch, ready to be snuggled under on chilly evenings, or hanging as a statement piece on a wall. I can’t wait to get this quilted!
If you’ve been itching to dive into a new project, I can’t recommend this combo enough. Riley Blake’s Curated Blooms brings so much life to the Star Light Star Bright quilt pattern, and the process is as enjoyable as the finished piece. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned quilter, this project is sure to leave you feeling inspired—and ready to start another quilt!
Have you tried Curated Blooms yet? Or do you have a favorite go-to pattern for new fabric lines? I’d love to hear your thoughts and see your creations!
