Wee Braw Bags with Besties

Hi friends! This is Luci from Sea Garden Sewing, and I’m so happy to show you all my newest projects using Corrine Wells‘ newest line, Besties!

As a former summer camp counselor of 6 years, I was immediately drawn to the friendship bracelet prints in the line. Add in beautiful blooms, contrasting checks, and adorable low-volumes, and you’ve got a perfect fabric line in my book!

For my project, I chose to make a set of Wee Braw Bags by Sweet Cinnamon Roses. I love how this pattern deviates from a straightforward drawstring bag but still has an easy-to-follow construction.

I chose the ‘beads’ low-volume in cloud as the drawstring casing for all three bags. It’s such a darling print- who wouldn’t want to sew over a little peace sign or smiley face?

I made two bags in the larger size and one in the smaller (wee-er?) size. The prints are so fun to mix and match, and it was difficult to decide on a final layout for each bag. It’s always a great problem to have when everything looks so good together!

I basted the pockets in place with a larger stitch, and for the pockets, I used a pink chalk to draw the lines out before sewing.

Boxing out each corner gave the bags depth, and topstitching the final bag adds more of a professional finish.

For the drawstring, I used 3mm cotton cording in an unbleached cream to go with all three bags. I threaded the cording through the casing using a safety pin. I was planning on having just the larger wooden beads pictured below, but the holes in the beads were too wide to stay in place. I ultimately landed on using pony beads to keep the wooden beads secured and add an extra accent color.

Here are the finished bags:

These bags are absolutely adorable, and just like potato chips- you can’t have just one! I can easily see myself making more Wee Braw bags in the future. These bags can hold headphones, sewing notions, medications, art supplies, snacks, and more. They also nest beautifully, and would make a great gift- maybe for one of your Besties!
