Creating Meaningful Quilts: Friendship Star Block with Precious Petites Fabrics
Hello, Friends! It’s Sandy from Thai Charm here. I hope you had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the winter break with your family. We’re kicking off the new year with a meaningful and classic quilt block, featuring a brand-new fabric collection by Gerri Robinson of Planted Seed Designs called Precious Petites. As the name suggests, this collection is filled with gorgeous florals that are sure to make your heart bloom. Without further ado, let’s get started!
The Friendship Star Quilt Block is one of those classic quilt blocks that’s simple yet so meaningful. It represents a perfect way to celebrate connection in our quilting community. Generally, it is a nine-patch block with four half-square triangles forming the star’s points, while the remaining squares create the background and the center.
To make it even easier for you to join in the fun, I’ve created a free tutorial for this Friendship Star Block that you can download below. It includes instructions for three sizes: unfinished blocks measuring 6.5″ x 6.5″, 9.5″ x 9.5″, and 12.5″ x 12.5″.
I wanted to create a simple patchwork quilt with a bit of vintage charm, so I mixed Friendship Star with classic Two, Four, and Nine-Patch Blocks. To keep things playful, I also threw in some big squares of my favorite prints here and there. It came together in such a fun, effortless way!
I hope you enjoyed making this Friendship Star Block as much as I did! Be sure to tag me on Instagram @ThaiCharmllc and use the hashtag #ThaiCharmPatterns when you share your creations—I love seeing your projects!
Happy Quilting!
