The center heart of the Sweet Secrets Pillow doubles as an adorable pocket to keep that tooth safe, or to hide other little treasures. (Imagine this done in heart fabrics for Valentine’s Day! You could fill the pocket with little treats…)

Quilt Construction

Starting at heart center, you will add a series of HST and strips to achieve the nesting heart design. It comes together very quickly. If you plan on using directional fabrics, you’ll have to make extra blocks. Since this pattern uses the 2 at a time HST method, it means you will have to double the amount of HST you make because one in each pairing will have the directional fabric going the wrong way. This is what I had to do with the quilt above because I really wanted to use the toile fabric as the background. Keeping Fabric B + C non-directional was key to reducing fabric waste.

Fabric Requirements

Fabric A: (center heart) Cloud Characters (1/4 yd)

Fabric B: (middle heart) Blue Jasmine (1/2 yd)

Fabric C: (outer heart) Pink Jasmine (1 1/3 yds)

Fabric D: (background) Cloud Toile (1 1/3 yds)

Binding: Blue Plaid (1/2 yd)

Backing: Sherpa in Natural, Shannon Fabrics (1 5/8 yds)

Doesn’t the sherpa backing remind you of a bunny tail!!

Quilting

I long armed this quilt with the pantograph: Keryn’s Camellia by Urban Elementz. I like how the quilting mimics a flower patch. Can’t you picture the bunnies munching away? Since I used a sherpa backing, the quilting is really defined and adds the dreamiest texture to this nostalgic heirloom.
