Fam Jams with RBD Flannel

Hi! It’s Jen Belnap stopping by today to share my favorite holiday project, Fam Jams! I have been making my kiddos matching pjs for years! This year is a new favorite because we used Riley Blake Designs Flannel!

This flannel is buttery soft! The colors are so vibrant and they all coordinated so well together! We have been living in our Fam Jams during this holiday season! Seriously, no one wants to get dressed!

One of the trickiest parts is picking out the patterns. I have to measure each kid and see which pattern fits them the best. Aren’t these pattern sew much fun? I especially love the vintage ’70’s pattern! And can you believe a pattern was $1.50?!?

Tip: Write down everyone’s measurements with the date on it! Then add which pattern you decided on. This will save you time for the next year! It gives you a good starting point for the next year!

The thing that takes me the longest is the cutting! Cutting out 8 pairs of pants is no joke! To help pass the time, I listen to my favorite audiobook and cut away!

I have sewn with a lot of flannel over the years for our Fam Jams and this is by far my favorite flannel! It stays so nice and flat when cutting!

Once everything is cut, it is a sewing marathon!  This is a great time to listen to your favorite holiday tunes or a Christmas book! That’s what I always do!

Tip: I put a piece of tape at the 5/8″ mark. The patterns that I use call for a 5/8″ seam allowance. This helps me line things up super fast!

Keep in mind, I’m usually sewing these up Christmas Eve! So anything to help me speed up helps!

And here they are all finished! (I was actually done before Christmas Eve this year! Wahoo!)

We love having matching pjs for the holidays. I love having coordinating pants too. Then no one ‘steals’ their sister’s pants! These were so much fun to make. I am a huge fan of RBD flannel!

I have some fabric scraps leftover from our pjs this year, so I am cutting out blocks for a new Fam Jams quilt. This quilt will be a memory quilt for us. I am excited for this January project! Keep an eye on my Instagram and sign up for my super cool emails so you can see my progress.
