Dutch Days Featuring Warm Rain Batiks
Hello Quilting Friends! It’s Melissa Corry from Happy Quilting with you today! I am so excited to share a new quilt with you that features the new Warm Rain Batiks Collection from Riley Blake’s Expression Batiks! Can you believe I had made over 300 quilts before I discovered Batiks? They are just so great with their bold colors and prints. So ya, I have been falling in love with making Batik Quilts and lucky for me, Expression Batiks is releasing a whole ton of new Batik Collections! I knew these Warm Rain Prints on a Dark Background would just sing! So I went to my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book and designed a new Dutch Days quilt and here it is.
What I really love about the quilts in my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book is that they are all made from one 10″ Stacker and a background fabric. But this time, I decided to Super Size my Dutch Days quilt. So I grabbed two Warm Rain 10″ Stackers, instead of 1, and 4 1/4 Yards of that stunning Indigo Dye from the Warm Rain Collection for the background and away I went.
And I just love how the colors pop! The movement in this quilt is already great, but I think these Batiks just make it all the more special. Isn’t it just so fun to see how much a quilt design changes by changing the fabric! And I love that this design allows you to make it look super scrappy, even though it is made with a 10″ Stacker. So easy and fun 🙂
And Dutch Days might look like you will be trimming Half Square Triangle’s forever, but guess what, there is not a single HST unit in the entire quilt. It is made using No-Waste Flying Geese Units and if you haven’t made those before, you are going to love how these flying geese come together! This whole quilt is super fast and super fun to make and is equally great for beginners and experts alike. The original Dutch Days quilt finishes at 72″ square, but like I said, this quilt was super sized this one to a queen size (90 x 90) by adding 9 more blocks.
And when it came time to do the quilting, Barbara (my amazing MIL) quilted a gorgeous flowing swirling flower all over. I love how the flowing quilting adds to the movement of all those sharp crisp lines in the piecing. And using a Navy thread made it blend in the background and pop on all of the color prints. So fun!!
And that is my new Dutch Days quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this post. To see all of the quilts from my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book, you can Visit This Post with all the quilts and all the details 😉 Again, each of the 9 quilts in the book are made with one 10″ Stacker and a background fabric. And as you can see, it is also easy to make them bed sized quilt by just adding a few more blocks 😉
Oh, and if you make your own Dutch Days Quilts, (or any of the quilts from Fast & Fun Lap Quilts ) I would love to see them! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and #rileyblakedesigns and tag @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can’t wait to see your Quilts!!
And that is all for today 🙂 I am so happy to have discovered so many amazing Batiks Collections and I am having so much fun making Batik Quilts! I will be sharing more soon from the wonderful world of Batiks!
