Ready for a Botanic Blast?
I’ve never really been a “girly” girl. I wasn’t into “pink girly” things, I wasn’t into “frilly” things and I wasn’t into “flowery” things. But it turns out, I just hadn’t found the right pink, frilly, flowery things! Botanic Blast by Sew Yeah Quilting has entered the chat!
In the event you’ve been on vacation on a deserted island for the past few years, Sew Yeah Quilting started as a small family owned business. And what started as a small business has turned into Las Vegas’ premier quilting & sewing supply retailer! Well, they can now add fabric designer to their repertoire!
I’m in absolute LOVE with this collection. From the vibrant colors and the unique flowers to the flighty hummingbirds, everything about Botanic Blast makes me smile! And because it is a flowery collection, I thought what better quilt pattern to showcase the flowers than Primrose by Cluck Cluck Sew?
I did take some liberties with the pattern, mainly the jars and the flower petals. I opted to make my jars three different colors instead of one colors. And while the pattern calls for 5 fat quarters, or five 1/4 yard cuts, to make the flower petals I went with 12 1/4 yard cuts for my flower petals. I also decided to add some applique throughout the quilt and used the oh so cute hummingbirds!
I was a bit nervous on how the finished top would look but I’m so happy with how it turned out. I think I was really able to showcase the different flowers in each print by using one print per flower, with a few doubles here and there as I selected 12 prints for 15 flowers.
And because I’m a visual learner, you know I made a video tutorial walking you through the process of making this adorable quilt top, hummingbirds included! And it’s of course free to watch on YouTube. Check it out below! While I used yardage for my top, the Primrose quilt pattern is fat quarter friendly so I highly recommend to snag a fat quarter bundle of this botanic collection!
