Announcing the 2025 RBD Block Challenge!
We are so excited to kick off our annual RBD Block Challenge in January 2025! You know that this is one of our favorite things each year. It’s a wonderful way to connect with the quilting community and have fun learning new techniques and block designs.
If you have been sewing along with the block challenge in years past, then you will notice a BIG change for 2025. We have decided to reveal our final quilt layout from the beginning! We normally keep the mystery of the final layout until the very end but we have received lots of messages requesting that we share the layout earlier so people can better plan their projects. We heard your feedback and we’re giving that a try this year! So, without further ado, the 2025 Block Challenge Quilt Design!
This might be our favorite layout to date and we hope you love it too! Like always, the quilt is comprised of 16 blocks made by different RBD Designers. We are stitching up two versions of this quilt. One in Confetti Cottons solids, and the other in Expressions Batiks. Both versions are stunning! Remember, you can use ANY fabric you want for this challenge.
The Schedule
UPDATE!! The 2025 challenge will begin on January 14th and end on May 27th. We are changing the start date from January 7 to the 14th so for January ONLY, there will not be a break week. Then, continuing forward we will drop new block patterns every Tuesday and leave the last Tuesday of each month for a catch up week.
You can download the complete schedule and see all the participating designers below.
Fabric Requirements & Quilt Kits
We know that many of you want to get a jump start on your preparation. Click below for the fabric requirements AND cutting guides for both versions!
Ok, let’s talk QUILT KITS!! We know that kits are very popular for this challenge and we are happy to share that several of our wonderful RBD Quilt Shops are carrying (or plan to carry) quilt kits for this challenge! We have participating shops listed below. If you don’t see the listing just yet you can contact the shop directly to reserve your kit! If you are a shop carrying kits and want to be added to this list please email us at blog@rileyblakedesigns.com.
Where to Find The Patterns
Each Tuesday, when a new pattern is released there are several places we will share it. It will go our in our newsletter, on all our social media channels, here on the blog, and on our website. We try to make it so you can’t miss it but please note that ALL the released patterns will live right here on our website if you need to find them all in one place. We will drop the patterns at 10 am MT on the scheduled days.
We also have a really fun, private Facebook Group for all of you to connect, ask questions, and share your blocks! This group has grown so much over the years and we have almost 19K members now! You can click the button above to join that group. We do get asked why it is a private group and that reason is just so we can try to keep control of spam accounts and protect our group members. We encourage everyone to join and all are welcome!
Get Set to Sew!!
We can hardly wait for another fabulous RBD Block Challenge in the new year! Get your kits, prep your fabric, and we’ll see you back here on January 14th!

Thank you so much for this great blog post with every answer anyone could ever need or want for next year’s block challenge — and let’s not forget to say thank you for hosting another SAL next year! The RBD block challenge in one of my annual favorites <3 My entire sewing studio is tucked away in storage until after next year's block challenge ends but I will really look forward to doing the SAL as soon as I get to take my things out of storage again. Yay! <3

What is the cost to join and is there a fee for each pattern?
Maddie Butler
This is a free pattern sew along! Each block and the finishing instructions will be free on our website as we release them. The only cost for you would be if you wish to buy a quilt kit to go along with it:)
