Dresden Plate Jacket featuring the Wanderlust Collection
Hi friends, it’s Amy from Ritual Quilt Company. Have you seen Wanderlust, a new collection by Danelys Sidron? I’m pretty sure I gasped with delight when I first saw it- it’s got that dreamy, folksy, vintage look that I just love. The blacks and muted greens in some of the prints add an edge that sets this collection apart from other floral collections and makes it perfect for fall and winter projects.
I decided to make a classic Dresden Plate and add it to the back of a denim jacket for a bespoke fall look. What do you think? Dresdens are wonderful blocks, because they are visually complex, simple to make, and allow you to use a variety of prints. If you like to thrift, this project will work really well on a vintage, oversized jacket- and it doesn’t have to be denim! I could picture this block looking really sweet on a canvas or corduroy base, as well. If you’d like to make your own Dresden plate jacket, the full tutorial is included below.
You can choose to make the Dresden plate as large or as small as you want. I would recommend measuring the back of your jacket to estimate how much workable space you have. My jacket is oversized, so I used a Dresden with 8-inch blades. The plate ended up measuring about 18.5 inches across and took up most of the back of my jacket.
I hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial! Wanderlust is such a pretty collection that lends itself well to apparel. I’m excited to see what you make with this collection.
