Cactus Quilting Celebrates 3 Years in Sun City West, AZ -

Today’s RBD Shop Stop is for the fabulous Cactus Quilting! Cactus Quilting will celebrate its 3^rd Anniversary in Sun City West on October 4^th through the 12^th! Owner Kelly Grant is excited to celebrate this milestone with you. Special pricing on many products, demonstrations and daily door prizes are planned. Prizes include a Five-day Quilt Camp, Fabric, Tools, Notions, Patterns and some other exciting prizes to be announced, so be sure to stay tune!

“Your Place for Quilting Fun!” is the store’s motto and Kelly brings experience and fun to her teaching. She especially loves teaching “newbies” all about technique and is described by students as patient, organized, calm, and fun. Her incredible trunk shows include selections from over 180 completed Quiltworx projects.

With a wide variety of fabrics, patterns, kits, notions, and tools, this is a great place to shop. The bright and well-planned classroom is an inviting place to gather with friends. Sign up for one of the many classes, camps and Cactus Quilt Club. The shop carries a large inventory of Quiltworx patterns as well as many Kimberbell products.

Cactus Quilting opened in Sun City West in October 2021 but Kelly began her sewing career at six years old. Her first sewing machine was a Singer Featherweight, and that same machine is still used to this day for some projects.

For many years, Kelly’s sewing was focused on clothing, but she made the jump to quilting in October 2010 when a friend showed her the Quiltworx website, specifically the “Flowers for My Wedding Ring” pattern, and she was HOOKED! She was encouraged to become a certified instructor and in February 2013, she attended her first class with Judy Niemeyer. She became a Certified Instructor in April 2014, finally achieving her Dream Job!

Kelly has designed three patterns that are published by Quiltworx: Eclipse, Anemone and Basket of Rainbows. She traveled to Bali as a guest of Batik Textiles in September 2018 and put together her first collection of fabric. This inspired her to continue to pursue design and her second collection, Dragonfly Spell, was released in May 2020.

After teaching for several years at a shop, circumstances changed and Kelly decided to rent space at a retreat house and continue teaching. Students needed supplies, so she ordered a few and before she knew it, Cactus Quilting was born. Cactus Quilting was certified by both Quiltworx and Kimberbell during the summer of 2020. In September 2021, it was the onsite shop for Quiltworx University in Tucson. Finally, on October 12, 2021, she opened in its current location in Sun City West.

Kelly is happily married and her husband provides support in the shop and at home. Both of her children are married and she has two grandsons with a granddaughter due soon. With the company of the “grand cats,” she spends time in her home studio most evenings.
