Exploding Pineapple Block with Stay Wild
I’ve always found it tough to choose just a few fabrics for a single quilt block. When I first saw the Stay Wild Collection by Amanda Niederhauser, I wanted to use every single one! With its wildflowers and whimsical elements, the collection is so charming and irresistible.
I decided to make some exploding pineapple blocks with this collection. I started with one to see how it would turn out, and before I knew it, I had nine blocks, the perfect size for a lap quilt.
One thing to note about the exploding pineapple block is that it doesn’t have the sharp points you’d find in a square-in-a-square block. However, it creates such a fun and whimsical look! If the lack of points might drive you crazy, this block might not be for you.
Here’s a quick guide on how to make this block.
I used Stay Wild Suns Cream for the white background and Chambray in Light Indigo by Christopher Thompson from my stash, which I’ve had for a long time. In case you’re wondering how long, I’m pretty sure this fabric is discontinued (haha). I also added some sashing strips to achieve the look that I wanted. I probably should write a pattern for this one.
I opted for simple Baptist fan quilting. It’s a basic design that adds just the right texture to this quilt. Sometimes, the best choice is to return to the basics, don’t you think?
