Meadow Patch: A Quilt Inspired by Prairie Life
This new collection, “A Walk on the Prairie” by Modern Prairie (aka Melissa Gilbert of Little House on the Prairie) was inspired by sweet simplicity of prairie life and the comforts of home, featuring a menagerie of florals, stripes, polka dots & gingham in sage gray, marsala, and cream color story.
Speaking of simplicity, I couldn’t resist designing my newest pattern, the ‘Meadow Patch Quilt,’ featuring traditional granny square blocks with a twist. While a traditional granny square block is typically set on point, I wanted my Meadow Patch Quilt to be a bit simpler, with just a glimpse of that classic design. And, of course, I found a way to highlight these beautiful prints!
The Meadow Patch Quilt comes in two versions: Modern (using yardage) and Scrappy (using a layer cake). For this one, I decided to combine elements of both versions, resulting in identical, modified granny square blocks throughout.
I made this quilt while my longarm machine was away, so I had to improvise. For the first time, I quilted a throw-sized quilt on my domestic machine and opted for wavy lines about 1/2 inch apart. I’m impressed with the texture and pleasantly surprised by how easy it was.
