Vintage Charm – Jade’s Bag
Hi Makers! It’s Sara from @SaraBQuilts! We are slowly starting to get cooler nights and mornings here in Michigan, and every once in a while it is cool enough outside to wear a sweatshirt all day. I am very excited for another Michigan fall and cannot wait for cider mills, pumpkin patches, and fires out back. I knew when I saw Riley Blake Designs’s and Dani Mogstad’s new collection Vintage Charm that it would make the perfect back to school, fall bag. I imagined drinking hot cider while dropping off my kids at school with my new Vintage Charm bag!
Rosie Taylor from @rosie.taylor.crafts just came out with a new bag pattern called the Jade’s bag! You can find the pattern HERE. I was so fortunate to pattern test this bag for her and it was a delight to make. It comes in two sizes, gives you plenty of space to customize, and comes together fairly fast! I love Rosie’s patterns and this is not an exception.
The sweet apple prints are my favorite part of the collection, along with Dots in Stone, so I chose the Dots to be the lining and the apple prints to be showcased on my appliqué. For the appliqué, I used The Vintage Flower Sampler Quilt book by Atsuko Matsuyama which is my go-to book for appliqué patterns. My very first blog post for Riley Blake talks about how I prepare my fabric for appliqué using this book as well. You can get a copy of it HERE.
The navy and blue fabrics in this collection are stunning. I used Scallops in Midnight for the pocket linings and for the flower leaves. Dots in Midnight made perfect leaves as well, while Floral Stripes in Stone made the sweetest flower petals. I am going to be saving a lot of Apples in Midnight and Stone for future teacher’s gifts!
While not part of the collection, Jazzberry Natalie Bee Gingham was the coordinating basic that I used for the body of the purse. It works perfectly with this collection and really brings out the school and fall vibes I was going for! I used the gingham to make the crossbody strap and the tiny bows on each side of the bag. This entire collection would make the sweetest picnic quilt with the Jazzberry Gingham as the background!
I hope you love my new Jade’s bag using Riley Blake Designs Vintage Charm collection! It is going to get a lot of use this fall! I can’t wait to see what you come up with using this collection. Happy making, friends!
