Fall Leaves Quilt with 100 Aker Woods
Hello makers – it’s Sara from Rose Hill Quilts sewing with the latest Zippyboro collection! I’ve been collecting Jill Howarth fabric since her Peter Pan collection, and I was over the moon when I got to do a project with her new 100 Aker Woods fabric line. The colour palette includes a range of cheerful greens and yellows, gorgeous low volumes, as well as pretty pastel pink and blue. You can just head to the storyboard to check out all the prints and coordinating basics.
A late summer inspired quilt
I picked the yellow, honey and gold colourway to make the Fall Leaves pattern, by Cluck Cluck Sew. These colours reminded me of the last weeks of summer, when the green leaves turn lighter green and head towards the yellow and gold of autumn.
Quilting the top
I love choosing pantographs that complement the themes of the quilt and the fabric. In these case, I found a butterflies pantograph from Sew Shabby Quilting which matched the Pooh theme. I wanted the design to pop, so I quilted it with Dijon Glide thread, although I also considered green and muted yellow threads. The Vlieseline bamboo / cotton mix wadding has a slightly higher loft than other bamboo mix brands, so that also helped to make the design have greater definition, while keeping a nice drape.
Making the quilt reversible
When I’m sewing with a particular collection, I always buy the panel! It’s great for coordinating projects like cushions, but I also really enjoy using the panels for backing. It makes for a reversible quilt! I used the collection panel and added some rows to the top and bottom with other prints from the collection. The panel sides are Dainty Daisy in Honey.

This is beautiful! I have a FQ bundle from Northcott with rocks/trees/leaves in it.. I may make a runner out of it with this pattern…
Thanks!
