Urban Pine Quilt with Christmas Is In Town

Happy holiday sewing time! It’s Amy from Ritual Quilt Company here. I recently had the pleasure of sewing with Sandy Gervais’s newest collection, Christmas Is In Town! The rich colors and classic motifs lend themselves so well to a timeless holiday quilt. When I saw these fabrics, I knew a clean, modern pattern would complement them perfectly. Let me introduce you to the Urban Pine quilt pattern by my friend Kaycee of Sew & Sew Quilting Co.!

About the Quilt Pattern

The Urban Pine pattern is one of those versatile seasonal designs that can be displayed for the entire winter season. The clean lines and negative space allow the eye to rest, making it ideal for a bedroom quilt! The pattern comes together quite quickly and makes a large throw size, finishing at 62″ x 80″. For my version of the Urban Pine Quilt, I used Cream Stars for the background and Forest Mistletoe for the tree. The other fabrics used are Cream Mistletoe, Multi Plaid. The backing is Winterberry Texture, from the Riley Blake Texture collection, also designed by Sandy Gervais. These fabrics look especially dreamy during golden hour, when I took the photo above!

About the Quilting

To complement the classic fabrics and modern pattern, I decided to go with clean, straight-line quilting. Have you tried quilting like this before? It’s really easy to do with a walking foot and doesn’t require much marking. To begin, I simply mark one vertical, straight line from top to bottom of the quilt. I quilt on the marked line using a 3.5 mm stitch length. After the first line is quilted, I just line up the left edge of the presser foot with the line I just quilted, and so forth for each subsequent line. I start in the middle of the quilt and quilt out to both sides of the quilt. The resulting texture is so cozy!
