Stay Wild- Pembina Backpack

It’s Sara from @SaraBQuilts and I am so excited to share my next project with you using Riley Blake Design’s Stay Wild fabric! Amanda Niederhauser designed a gorgeous, summery collection with bright greens, pinks, and blues as the standouts.

As some of you may know by now, I am a proud boy mom to two sons. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t dream of pink, girly clothes and accessories every once in awhile! That is where family comes in, especially three wonderful nieces all under the age of 10. They allow me to dream up those fun, girly projects and actually have someone to gift them to! In this case, I decided to make my eldest niece a backpack. She loves the color pink, she loves being in nature, and she is heading into Third Grade so she needed a big backpack for all her books!

I decided to make the Pembina Backpack by The Blanket Statement which can be found here, and I could not love this pattern more! It is quick, easy, and looks so good when it is finished. With exterior pockets, binding, and a flap, there are lots of places to customize your backpack and make it your own. For my niece’s backpack, I decided to appliqué my favorite Daisy from The Vintage Flower Sampler book, which can be purchased here, on the flap! I used my favorite appliqué technique and love how Stay Wild Boho Things Marmalade Sparkle looked as the flower center and the Stay Wild Boho Little Flowers in Green and the Tone-on-Tone Green looked as the leaves!

For the body of the backpack I used Stay Wild Tone-on-Tone Coral because it is a beautiful color with a pop of interest in the subtle flower print! For the sides I used Stay Wild Main in Peaches n’ Cream and the side pocket accent fabric was the Baptist Fan in Coral Sparkle. The colors in this collection work so well together, with the greens complimenting the corals and the blues adding the perfect accent!

The Pembina Backpack has both snaps and grommets on it, but do not be intimidated! This was my first time installing both of those and it was much easier than I expected. I want to add snaps on everything now!

I hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse at my Stay Wild Pembina backpack! I know my niece is going to love it and get so much use out of it. I really enjoyed making it and modeling with it outside!

Happy making!
