Sorbet & Sundaes – A Bright & Fun Free Quilt Pattern with Expressions Batiks

In my last post, I mentioned getting enough of this beautiful Sorbet & Sundaes Batik fabric collection to make two quilts. Well, here is quilt number 2!

Just like the first quilt, I decided on going with a bigger block pattern to let the prints in each fabric really shine. The size of the prints varies throughout the collection so a bigger block was a sure way to not loose any of the larger print aspects.

For this quilt, I used 16 of the 24 prints in this collection. 15 prints were used for the body and 1 print was used for the binding. I decided on one of the darker blues for the binding to really frame the quilt. The sashing and borders were done with Confetti Cottons Riley White. I did toy around with the idea of using Confetti Cottons Riley Black. I think both would look amazing!

These fabrics were a breeze to work with… both times! I’ve mentioned being hesitant to make a quilt from batiks due to hearing nightmares from other quilters about color bleed or breaking needles due to the density of batik fabric. But that was not an issue at all with this collection. I even took this opportunity to do some dense quilting on this quilt. So much so that I almost missed my quilt due date to finish the quilting! Hehe!

This quilt was made using the Sliced Colors quilt pattern by Carol Segovia from Segovia Quilts (that’s me!). This is my first ever quilt pattern and I’m so excited to be able to debut it using this beautiful Sorbet & Sundaes Batik fabric collection from Riley Blake Designs! Oh! And did I mention this pattern is FREEEEE?

The Sliced Colors quilt pattern uses the 10″ Slicer Ruler from Vanessa Vargas Wilson, The Crafty Gemini. While I used fat quarters for this quilt, the pattern is 10″ stacker friendly as well! This collection seems hard to find so I highly recommend you snag your Fat Quarter Bundle straight away!

I live in Florida, and it’s July, so taking the above picture made for a rather HOT experience! Haha!
