Simple Holiday Patchwork with Ski Hill
Hey there, it’s Lesley from Piece and Quilted Studio and I am back to share my latest quick make with you! I was lucky enough to get my hands on Corinne Wells latest fabric line with Riley Blake, Ski Hill, and I whipped up a quick little lap quilt to showcase the wonderful prints. I’m not usually a holiday quilt maker, but I couldn’t resist those aquas which give this line a modern twist on traditional holiday/winter themed fabric.
I know it isn’t even close to winter yet, but this fabric line is just too lovely to pass up and it is perfect for all the fall and winter makes you have planned. For this lap quilt, I cut 6 1/2″ x WOF strips from 9 different prints and pieced 3 together lengthwise to create 3 strip sections. I pressed all my seams open and then cut 6 1/2″ blocks from each long strip (you should get approximately 6 blocks from each strip section). Next, randomly sew 3 blocks together to create 4 large patchwork blocks. For the inside border I used (2) 3 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ strips to piece the top and bottom blocks together, and (2) 3 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ strips with a 3 1/2″ center square and then attached the top half to the bottom half. For the outside border pieces I used 3 1/2″ strips with 3 1/2″ cornerstones to finish off the quilt top!
There is just something about patchwork that makes me think of a cozy winter evening curled up with a good book! I can’t wait to get this quilted up and soon enough (but please, not too soon) the snow will be flying and this lap quilt will be in regular rotation! (Check out the cute little quilted pillow I made with the scraps. I used this tutorial.)
Happy Sewing!
