Spooky Time with Beggars Night by Sandy Gervais
I don’t want to alarm anyone, but we’re less than 6 months away from spooky season and you’re not going to want to miss it. So, here is your warning to start thinking about it because Dot + Dash quilt by Modern Handcraft, using Beggars Night by Sandy Gervais, is a perfect beginner quilt to join your home.
Hi, I’m Alexis, a quilter, photographer, and longarm quilter crafting up all things holiday and having fun.
Dot + Dash is a beginner quilt pattern that comes in multiple sizes and is fat quarter friendly. I chose several fabrics from the collection but also added in a few Riley Blake basics to enhance the seasonal quilt.
To keep with the spooky theme, we longarm quilted the Gossamer pantograph with coordinating purple thread, which adds that perfect subtle touch.
As a photographer, I like to document my projects with a full glamour shot session once they are complete. For this make, we took the quilt into the woods of our local mountains and brought in lots of textures to enhance all those spooky vibes. What do you think? Does it work?
For binding, I’ve actually been experimenting as of late. I’m pretty traditional and typically hand-stitch all of my binding, but I’ve had a change of heart and did things by machine for this one.
I cut the binding at 2.25 inches wide, sewed it to the back of the quilt, and then flipped it to the front and machine-sewed it down. Typically, I use a 2.5 stitch length, except I had an oops and it was accidentally applied using a 1.8, but she still looks stunning.
And don’t forget, your spooky season isn’t complete without a ghost quilt photo wink.
