A Walk in the Woods Block of the Month
Hey shop owners, it’s time for A Walk in the Woods Block of the Month LAST CALL! Contact your Sales Rep or click here to place your order and read more below!
We just returned from h+h americas and had such a fabulous response to our FIRST Expressions Batiks Block of the Month! Have you seen it?
This project is designed by Bev McCullough, of Flamingo Toes–you know her also from all the fabulous cotton collections she’s created for Riley Blake Designs. This is an existing pattern that she has converted into a monthly program for us, running for 6 months, starting in January 2025. But only if you get in before Last Call as this is a presale only program for our shops.
So why choose this Block of the Month?! It’s a “shop recommended” pattern. For batiks, we like to showcase our collections in projects that shops have recommended, whether they recommend it as a well written pattern, a great classroom opportunity or something wonderful to kit. This pattern lent itself to a Block of the Month because of the “round robin” nature of it–which allows for some fun classroom opportunity! One teacher can kick it off, with a class on the center, the next teacher can showcase the next round, until the 6 months are completed. This gives such a great opportunity to showcase teachers within a store, simple enough blocks for the beginners to sample those teachers and get exposure to lots of different ways to make blocks–based on rulers, notions, each teacher prefers. We will of course recommend some of our favorites, with Bev showing hers in tutorials. A 6 month program gets the project completed in time to be quilted for a fabulous finished project for fall and winter.
This Block of the Month also works in how to use a stripe, so it also grabs the interest of those loyal quilters who are looking for something different to try. Don’t be afraid of adding stripes to any project! They add such a great texture! The stripe featured in this one, is 4 of the different colorways, tying into some of our basics to round out the fabric requirements. By using mainly our “not so basic” basics, this allows for easy reorders!
The fabric for this will ship in October, as well as the Shop Kit. This allows for a bit of time to assemble the monthly kits, allows the instructors to do step outs and figure out their lesson plans for each month. The Shop Kit does include a PIECED QUILT TOP, as well as the fabric to make another one. The thought process behind this is that this allows for stores to hang the sample, so more sign ups for the program can occur, but also have the fabric for teachers to work through the instructions. Marketing materials will also be included in the Shop Kit, including posters and bag inserts.
Also offered are A Walk In the Woods Quilt kits. These include fabrics for the top and binding, as well as the pattern in a beautiful, collectible Riley Blake Designs box. This allows for those quilters who just want to make the project on their own, maybe visiting from another location. These kits will arrive in December.
Our suggestion for this Block of the Month, is to grab the bolts to kit this up and run the program, with our support of course, but also make sure to grab the kits. There are lots of quilters looking for a fun, beautiful project and this is definitely it!
If you are NOT a quilt shop owner, don’t worry! We will be sharing more about this Block of the Month closer to it’s release and will include a list of shops carrying it! Be sure to tell your local shop about this fabulous quilt.
