Embrace Mini Quilt with Dancing Daisies
Hi friends, this is Luci from Sea Garden Sewing! I’m writing to show you the mini quilt that I’ve made featuring Casey Cometti’s Dancing Daisies fabric.
Despite usually leaning towards bright colors, I found myself entranced by this line. All of the colors and patterns are reminiscent of nature, and make me want to go outside and watch the sunset.
I particularly like the Main print in ecru (far left in the photo below) and wanted to feature it in my project. Because of this, I chose to make a mini quilt using my Embrace Quilt pattern. This pattern is designed for showcasing fussy cuts and is written with that directionality in mind.
The Embrace Quilt pattern is a block-based pattern inspired by the traditional bear paw quilt block. I cut the main print in 3.5″ squares, making sure to center each flower.
After creating the economy blocks and half-square triangles, this mini came together quite quickly. The chive and brick Wayward prints gave a lot of movement to the mini that I really appreciated!
I chose to use up some batting scraps and make ‘Franken-batting’ by butting up two straight edges of binding scraps and securing them using a zig-zag stitch. Mini quilts and other small projects are my favorite ways of using up those long strips of batting scraps.
I wanted to keep the focus on the pattern and prints, so I chose to quilt the block with a basic 2″ diagonal grid.
I used the Wayward print in carbon for the backing. To tie together the florals, I chose to use the Tangled print in ecru as my binding.
This Embrace mini quilt was so fun to put together. I love the floral features- it looks like a little bouquet was picked just for this quilt!
If you look closely at the gray print, it’s dandelion seeds being blown through the quilt! It adds such movement and really ties together the florals in my opinion.
Thank you so much for taking a look! It was really a pleasure working with this fabric line.
