In the Hayloft Mini Quilt with Spring Barn Quilts
Get ready to cozy up your space with the charming In the Hayloft Mini Quilt pattern!
It’s Leslie from The Seasoned Homemaker I’m back again with another fun project using the new Spring Barn Quilts fabric by Tara Reed.
Meet the In the Hayloft Mini Quilt – a barn quilt inspired project with two different options. One variation includes a decorative border that’s easy to assemble. This design makes an ideal wall hanging and the big block barn star design insures the quilt goes together quickly.
The second option removes the decorative border making it a good option for a table topper.
Whichever option you choose, In the Hayloft is perfect for creating a warm and inviting addition to your home. Snuggle up with this project and enjoy the satisfaction of a beautiful quilt!
The Fabric Creates the Look
In the Hayloft is designed to use yardage, but will also work well with solids, scraps and fat quarters! I used the fabric collection Spring Barn Quilts by Tara Reed, Basics in LeCreme for the background, and Bee Ginghams Red Caroline for the backing.
In the Hayloft Inspiration
The inspiration for In the Hayloft came about because I wanted a pattern that incorporated big blocks to create a design. If you’re interested in honing your half square triangle and flying geese skills, then this project is for you. You will be able to quickly cut and assemble a quilt while mastering some basic quilting techniques.
About the In the Hayloft Mini Quilt
What sets In the Hayloft Mini Quilt apart is it’s simplicity. The design features clear and concise instructions along with detailed diagrams, ensuring that you never feel overwhelmed. Whether you’re an experienced quilter or just starting out, you’ll enjoy every step of the process.
In the Hayloft also works with scraps or leftovers from a fat quarter bundle. I’ve made two variations from scrap yardage and leftover fat quarters. Your quilt would also look great with low volume fabrics for the background.
One Pattern – Two Sizes
In case you’re wondering, the In the Hayloft Mini Quilt comes in two different quilt sizes. This means you can use this pattern in a variety of ways to make a multitude of unique quilts for special occasions, holidays, or different events.
- Table Topper – no border (24″ x 24″)
- Wall Hanging – with borders (34″ x 34″)
The Decorative Border
One of my favorite things about this quilt is the decorative border. The corner blocks are strip pieced so they go together without any matching issues. While the pattern samples are pretty simple and are designed to set off the barn star, I could see the border in reverse colors by swapping the lighter value fabrics with darker value fabrics.
