Sara’s Retro Daisy Quilt with Splendid!
Hello Makers! Sara Brown of @SaraBQuilts here to show you my fabulous new quilt using Gabrielle Neil’s new fabric collection, Splendid, for Riley Blake Designs! This collection is bright, bold, and happy! I knew the moment I saw the Splendid Shibori prints and the Splendid Butterflies prints that I was going to make a floral quilt that lent to larger scaled designs. I am so excited to share what I chose to do with them!
To show off the fun, bright Splendid fabric, I decided on the Retro Daisy quilt which can be purchased here. As a fan of hand stitched appliqué, I was intrigued by how the large daisies were attached to the background fabric. The pattern designer, Maude (@theretroquilter), chose a unique method of machine applique that takes away the normal preparations needed for needle-turn or starch basted appliqué! This quilt came together quickly and each block was an addition to my colorful, retro garden!
For the quilting design of my Retro Daisy quilt, I worked with Molly Kohler of Lovely Threads Quilts to find the perfect edge to edge pantograph. We decided on her new pantograph design, Morning Blossom, to show off the large scaled daisies. Molly picked a medium purple thread to match the backing fabric and to give the appearance of the quilt being puffier with the shadows that played off of the darker thread!
As for the binding, the Splendid Stripe in Cobalt made the perfect edge to this Retro Daisy quilt! Instead of my normal quarter inch seam on the front when attaching the binding, I used a larger three eighths inch seam to really show off the stripe designs. The Splendid Stripe in Cobalt or White would make a great binding for any bright and colorful quilt.
I am so pleased with this happy, colorful Retro Daisy quilt using the Splendid collection! I currently have this quilt displayed in the entryway to my home, welcoming in spring vibes and happy thoughts! I hope you enjoyed seeing my Retro Daisy quilt in Riley Blake’s new Splendid collection.

This collection looks so cheerful and bright! I really liked how you used the butterfly prints as some of the backgrounds for the flower blocks. The quilt looks really happy and sweet.
