Quilted Patchwork Duffle with Bee Dots & RBD Basics

Hello, I’m Alexis from Stitched By Alexis, a passionate traveler known for carrying a pile of quilts wherever I go. Recently, I fell in love with the Patchwork Duffle by Kaitlyn of Knot and Thread, a convenient solution that allows me to carry two or more quilts for easy travel.

For this charming bag, I opted for Bee Dots in VaLene Cora by Lori Holt. The petite design on a pink background resonated with me, reminiscent of my grandmother’s vintage button collection, evoking warm and fuzzy feelings. To enhance the bag, I used Bee Cross Stitch by Lori Holt in Clover for the straps and bias binding, creating a beautiful contrast. The bag’s interior is elegantly lined with Bee Cross Stitch on Cloud by Lori Holt in Riley Green, tying back to the green accents in the handles and body panel.

Despite initial nerves about constructing a bag, Kaitlyn’s well-crafted pattern and helpful YouTube tutorials on tricky sections made the process enjoyable. You can find the pattern for purchase here.

The Patchwork Duffle pattern provides choices for a patchwork or whole cloth panel. As a longarm quilter, I opted to quilt the panel using the Cartwheels pantograph by Julie Hirt, adding a timeless pattern to the Bee Dot fabric.

Featuring two large pockets on either side of the body panel, the bag offers easy access to travel essentials like books, magazines, water bottles, sunglasses, or snacks. Using Riley Blake Designs fabric ensures durability and softness for the perfectly placed shoulder straps, complemented by cute designs like the basics collection in Bee Dots and Cross Stitch to match any aesthetic.
