Easy Courthouse Steps Baby Quilt with Journal Basics
Due to popular demand, we have turned this tutorial into a downloadable free quilt pattern! Enjoy!
Janet Wecker Frisch of Great Joy Studio released a fabulous new basic collection this year. Journal Basics has arrived and it is the perfect addition to your stash!
This collection includes a balanced blend of color and low volume, all with Janet’s iconic design work. While this collection is a basic, it can also stand alone. Today we are sharing a quick and easy Courthouse Steps Block Quilt using Journal Basics.
Sometimes I like to let the fabric speak to me and just start sewing! I had leftover strips of Journal Basics from a Rolie Polie. When I laid them out on the cutting table I knew the rainbow of colors and the low volume would look great in a Courthouse Steps quilt block. I started with the black and grey and just started cutting!
I added low volume on the sides and continued piecing the colored strips to the top and bottom of the block. I just kept adding strips until had the sweetest little quilt! I cut the strips as I went which gave me lots of flexibility when placing colors and prints.
It can be so relaxing to just sit down and sew. Making this little quilt was a great way to recharge my creative battery. Don’t you love how it turned out?! I stopped mine at a baby-sized quilt but you could continue to make yours larger if you wish!
Journal Basics is available now! Check with your local quilt shop or favorite online retailer to shop. Tag us in your projects with #rileyblakedesigns and #journalbasicsfabric!
